Gustavo B. Slovinsky

Gustavo B. Slovinsky was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1954. His family immigrated to the United States in 1957 and he was raised in Texas, New Jersey, and Illinois.

Gustavo attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1977.

Gustavo graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1981. The weekend after graduation, he married his sweetheart, Mary Roche, in Chicago, and the next day they drove out to San Diego in time for him to take the July 1981 California Bar Exam.

Gustavo passed the bar the first time and a year later established his own practice in Chula Vista, taking immigration, criminal, and personal injury cases. He started off with a contract with the County of San Diego to represent indigent misdemeanor defendants at $51 per case, total. But it was a start.

Over the years, Gustavo handled many kinds of cases and gained valuable knowledge that proved useful when he transitioned to practicing family law in 1999. Family law encompasses every area of human endeavor that clients are involved in. So a broad knowledge of other areas of law greatly adds to the ability to handle and resolve all of a client’s issues outside of family law itself.

Gustavo has exclusively handled family law cases since 1999. In practice now for over 43 years, he has helped literally thousands of clients weather the worst crisis of their lives. He is dedicated to handling cases with the least emotional and economic stress possible. As a caring father himself, he works hard to ensure that the children of his clients are well cared for and protected from the often toxic atmosphere of divorce.

Gustavo speaks Spanish fluently and has extensive experience litigating cross-border issues, which are common in our border community.

Gustavo is a member of the San Diego County and South Bay Bar Associations. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where he has argued several cases.
